In a bid to combat the looming water crisis, BWSSB officials, alongside FKCCI’s Ramesh Lahoti and Apartment Association president Vikram Roy, convened for a crucial news conference. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Green Star Initiative, spearheaded by BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar.
Addressing the attendees, Ram emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “We have already initiated the Green Star Challenge on March 14th, and today, we are symbolically launching the web portal.” He urged citizens to register for the initiative, particularly those who adhere to water-saving practices like the ‘Pancha Sutras’.
Ram noted a significant improvement in water scarcity, with March witnessing an 80% reduction in shortages, primarily concentrated in the eastern region.
The Green Star initiative hinges on five crucial formulas. Firstly, there’s an emphasis on water conservation, widely adopted by numerous apartments. Secondly, the promotion of environmentally-friendly treated water for construction and commercial purposes. Thirdly, a call to bolster groundwater levels ahead of the impending rainy season.
Furthermore, efforts are directed towards conserving tube wells, with over 6,900 out of 14,000 borewells already collapsed. Ram urged citizens to proactively preserve the remaining borewells.
As BWSSB braces for the challenges ahead, collective action and adherence to the Green Star initiative remain pivotal in securing a sustainable water future.
