Even as many heaved a sigh of relief at the leopard being caught in Bengaluru, it emerged that the big cat was shot to death by forest officials.
Sources inform NewsFirst Prime that the officials were apprehensive of the animal attaching them. Therefore, even as the leopard lay in a net, the officials shot it with the help of a double-barrel gun.
At the time of filing this report, a postmortem is being conducted.
It might be recalled that the leopard had not eaten anything for the last 3 days. Officials from the Bannerghatta National Park and a special team from Mysuru had been in action, trying to corner the wild animal.
In the afternoon, the wild animal was finally caught after it remained elusive and threatening the lives of many. Earlier in the day, it had even attacked a vet who tried to shoot tranquillizers into it. He was immediately rushed to a hospital.
Now as the animal is dead, questions still remain as to whether pulling the trigger was essential, rather than leaving it in the confines of the forest.
For the last three days, the leopard had given sleepless nights to residents of Krishnareddy layout near Electronics city in Bengaluru. It is believed the big cat had strayed into this part of Bengaluru from Bannerghatta National Park.
