BY Vijayendra, the State BJP president of Karnataka, has sharply criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for Bengaluru’s decline as the country’s Startup Capital. Vijayendra’s remarks come in the wake of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ statement declaring that Mumbai has surpassed Bengaluru in terms of both the number of startups and their value.

In a scathing attack on the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government, Vijayendra accused the administration of fostering an environment of apathy and indifference towards growth and new opportunities. He claimed that under the previous BJP-led government, Bengaluru thrived as a hub for entrepreneurship, creating jobs and leading development in the state. However, he stated that the Congress government has failed to maintain this momentum, leading to a decline in Bengaluru’s startup ecosystem.

Vijayendra further criticized the government for its regressive policies, which he argued have eroded investor confidence and discouraged innovation. He emphasized that the current administration lacks a clear direction and vision for Karnataka’s future, resulting in the disillusionment of young entrepreneurs and innovative minds.

The remarks were made in the context of Maharashtra’s growing dominance in the startup sector, which has raised concerns about the future of Bengaluru as a leading hub for startups. The shift is also seen as a significant blow to the “Brand Bengaluru” initiative.
