Bengaluru: Centenary of Malleshwaram Cooperative Bank celebrated  in Palace Grounds

    Cooperative banking helped in navigating the 2009 economic crisis: Sadananda

A function to celebrate the centenary of the Malleshwaram Cooperative Bank was held in the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru. It has been 103 years since the bank has been operational. The function was inaugurated by the Member of Parliament (MP) of the Bengaluru North constituency from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sadananda Gowda. “Many cooperative banks perished during global financial crises. Malleswaram Cooperative Bank has however withstood the wind. This is no ordinary achievement. The bank has however managed to achieve this in an honest and committed manner. I am so glad to see all the members of the bank today. The participation we have seen today is a testament to the popularity of the bank among people. Economists have alluded to the fact that cooperative banking helped in navigating the 2009 economic crisis. It encouraged the culture of saving in Indian households,” he said. 

The Chief Guest of the program was the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Malleshwaram from BJP Ashwath Narayan. The manager of the bank Ramesh also spoke during the function. He highlighted that the bank was founded on June 20th 1920. He stated that although the first bench was in Malleshwaram, other branches soon opened up in other regions across Bengaluru such as Rajajinagar, Yeshwanthpur and RPC Layout. 

Programs for entertainment were also arranged during the function.
