In a great green move towards conserving the lakes in Bengaluru, an organisation called Citizens for Sankey will send its resolution and recommendations on lake management in the city to the state government and BBMP to act upon. 

BBMP Special Commissioner for Lakes, Forest and Horticulture, Preethi Gehlot, has said that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is working on formulating a new policy for the rejuvenation and management of lakes in Bengaluru. She said while speaking at the ‘Namma Kere: The Gaps in Lake Management’, event organised by Citizens For Sankey and Bengaluru Praja Vedike at Malleswaram here in Bengaluru on August 20. 

BBMP is drafting a new policy on lake management for rejuvenating and monitoring lakes in Bengaluru by engaging resident welfare associations, environment activists, experts in lake management and various other interested groups. 

BBMP is revamping its existing portal on lakes in the city. This website will be ready in a month’s time and all updated information on lakes and their status will be available on this website. This website will also have some features relating to citizen response on lake management. 

Preeti Sunderajan of Citizens for Sankey said that based on the discussions held on lake management by various experts at this event, a resolution will be sent to the government and BBMP to act upon.

Prof Rajeev Gowda, vice-chairman, State Institute for Transformation of Karnataka, Professor TV Ramachandra from IISc and UV Singh, former lake development chief were among the resource persons who held discussions on lake management at this event.
