In Bengaluru, Kristu Jayanti College, a hub for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, launched a campaign titled “Sip right, live bright” to raise awareness among migrant labourers about the importance of utilizing clean water sources. This initiative was organized as part of the International Day for Eradication of Poverty.

The college is recognized as a United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) hub. UNAI selects specific member institutions for their commitment to research and innovation in line with UNAI principles.

According to a statement from the college, this campaign was the result of the diligent efforts of sixty postgraduate students, determined to effect change at the grassroots level. With a focus on comprehension, advocacy, and constructive dialogue, they have embarked on the mission to address the often neglected struggles of internal migrants in India.

Dr. Augustine George, Principal of Kristu Jayanti College, explained that their students spearheaded a movement to empower migrant laborers in accessing and efficiently utilizing safe and pure water sources. This undertaking aimed to educate migrants about independent water purification through techniques such as sand filtration, boiling, or solar disinfection as reported in The Hindu.
