IT companies ask employees to report to office three days a week

Surge in traffic anticipated with increase in number of private vehicles on road

Police recommend IT companies to consider adopting staggered timings

IT companies enforce a new mandate that requires their employees to be present in the office for at least three days a week. Residents who regularly commute in the vicinity of tech parks are concerned about the potential surge in traffic due to an anticipated increase in the number of private vehicles on the road.

Wipro, the country’s fourth largest software service firm, recently communicated its workforce about the enforcement of a mandatory hybrid work policy commencing on November 15.

Under this new policy, employees will be obligated to work from the office a minimum of three days every week. Prior to this, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) had already made it mandatory for employees to be present in the office for five days a week.

In an effort to mitigate potential traffic issues, the Bengaluru police have recommended that IT companies and parks consider adopting staggered timings, although this suggestion remains entirely voluntary.

Additionally, the parks can promote the usage of public transportation among employees or even provide a shared transport facility.

Following the inauguration of the entire Purple Line of the Metro for public use, IT employees now have the option to utilize the KR Pura Metro station to access the Outer Ring Road (ORR), which accommodates several tech parks and is notorious for traffic congestion.

Subsequently, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy introduced a fleet of 37 feeder buses operated by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) from the KR Pura Metro station, facilitating connectivity up to the Central Silk Board.

However, regular metro users express apprehension about an increase in the number of passengers, as the metro trains are currently operating at maximum capacity during peak hours.
