A Legislative Council bye-election to the Bangalore Teachers Constituency will be held on February 16th. Allegations of bribery have come to the forefront ahead of the election. It is being reported that expensive gifts have been provided to the teachers who will be voting during the elections. The candidate from the Indian National Congress Puttanna has faced these charges. Teachers in the Hoskote region were allegedly given silver bowls. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) squad of the Election Commision of India (ECI) supposedly uncovered this during a raid. They have now been seized. The raids are said to have been conducted in many schools.

Covers with the name Puttanna on them containing the silver bowls have been recovered during the raids. “This is very saddening. Teachers are individuals with impeccable character. Why are you trying to corrupt them? I request Puttanna to honestly face the election. This is shameful. You must be ashamed of this. Let us honestly face the election. I also request teachers to look into how various candidates are luring the voters. Kindly cast your vote to eligible candidates,” independent candidate Sunil Kumar said.
