Lakshmipathi redirected all gift vouchers in Reward 360 to his account

23-year-old Bommaluru Lakshmipathi is a graduate from the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Ongole in Computer Science. He had hacked into a website and directed all the cash rewards towards his own account. He had collected a total of 6 lakh gift vouchers amounting to Rs 4.16 crore. He has been arrested by the Bengaluru police. Valuables amounting to Rs 4.16 crore have been seized from him. This is inclusive of 5 kg of gold. Bengaluru Police Commissioner, B.Dayanand referred to this as the biggest seizure among cyber frauds in this year.
Apparently Lakshmipathi faced an issue with regard to card credit and approached his bank over this. They resolved the issue and provided him with a reward voucher as compensation. It is here that he came across the Reward 360 portal. He cracked their security and programmed the code to redirect all gift vouchers to him.
Seizures included bikes, laptops and mobile phones.
“He wanted to test his hacking skills and tried it out on Reward360, a firm that manages loyalty and rewards programmes. He managed to hack the website and syphoned gift vouchers to his account for nearly six months before he was caught. He wanted to pool in all the money and open a cyber security firm or settle in Dubai” Dayanand said in an infraction with media persons.
