Update February 14, 2024 at 2:32pm

Deadline has been extended by 3 months

Earlier, February 17th was the last date for registration

Online registration was hindered by server crash

There was a discussion in the Vidhana Parishad about the adaptation of HSRPs (High Security Registration Plates) by vehicles across Karnataka. “There are more than 2 crore vehicles across Karnataka. This rule is applicable even to tractors in villages. The deadline for this has to be extended,” Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Madhu G Madegowda representing the Indian National Congress (INC) said.

The online registration for the HSRPs led to the creation of multiple fake websites. The need for the Transport Department to take action against this was noted. Minister of Transport of Karnataka Ramalinga Reddy extended the deadline by 3 months. “We will exercise caution with regard to fake websites. This scheme is transparent,” he said.

Earlier, February 17th was the last date for registration. The traffic police were directed to impose fines on vehicles without HSRP registration February 18th onwards. Vehicle owners registered for changing their number plates through the online portal dedicated for this purpose. However they were faced with issues that arose out of the server crashing. This led to requests for the extension of the deadline.
