Bengaluru: Health Department takes preventive measures after woman gets infected by Cholera

    165 houses marked as probable zones for prevalence of cholera

    10 samples of water from region collected for analysis

    Restaurants advised to provide hot water to their customers

Bengaluru has been faced with a potential cholera outbreak amidst water shortage across the city. The disease has been identified in a woman in Bengaluru. She had complaints pertaining to vomiting and diarrhoea and hence underwent a blood test. It was during the blood test that the cholera was uncovered. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) health department has been on an alert ever since this development.  Each ward will be taking steps to prevent the spread of cholera.

The Health Department is currently tracing the travelling pattern of the woman. They have also made a list of people she came in contact with. The health department is attempting to spread awareness about how the disease spreads and the importance of consuming clean water. 165 houses have been marked as probable zones for the prevalence of cholera. Polluted water is suspected as the cause for cholera inflecting the woman. 10 samples of water from the region have been collected for further analysis. 

Hotels, restaurants and cafes have been advised to provide hot water to their customers. Private as well as government hospitals have been advised to register any cholera case in the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) platform. Cut fruits can be avoided by citizens at this juncture. Similarly consuming food near areas with high concentration of dust is risky.
