2 teams have formed to track him

After an FIR was filed against POCSO charges, Arjuna award-winning Indian hockey player Varun Kumar has been absconding. 

To trace him, 2 special teams have been formed by the DCP, West Division and have been dispatched to 4 different states.

At the same time, the Odisha, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab police have also launched a parallel search for the accused. The police have come to know that he has been on the run in the four states as per mobile tracking services. However, now that he has switched it off, the police are not sure about the exactness of his location.  

A 22-year-old woman had lodged a complaint under the said Act, alleging that she had been sexually assaulted when she was a minor. She alleges that she had come in contact with him through Instagram in 2018. Furthermore, she says she had been raped multiple times on the pretext of marriage, when she was just 17. 

At the time of the crime, Varun had been training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Bengaluru. In 2021, he had even bestowed with  the Arjuna Award. Interestingly, he had been promoted as a DSP in the Punjab police.
