Maha Shivaratri will be celebrated on 8th March. It is a government holiday. 9th March and 10th March happen to be Saturday and Sunday. This would make people opt for celebrating the occasion with their families in their hometown. This would consequently lead to an increase in demand for bus tickets in Bengaluru.

In the past, this has resulted in a sudden increase in ticket fares and a shortage of buses. In light of this, the KSRTC has opted to deploy 1500 additional buses to deal with the demand. This would be from 7th March until 11th March. This is not just for travel within Karnataka but to other states as well. Buses to Tirupati, Vijayawada and Hyderabad are among those that will have higher demand. Many buses to parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala will start from the Shantinagar Bus Stand. There will be discounts if more than 5 tickets are booked at once or if tickets for a place and coming back to Bengaluru are booked simultaneously.
