Protesters urge completion of Panathur S-Cross road-widening project

This project connects residential zones in Balagere to Kadubeesanahalli

Protesters also initiated online campaign with #BalagereDemandsRoads

On Saturday (December 9), more than 1,000 residents residing in Balagere, Panathur, Varthur, Gunkur, and nearby areas united to form a human chain, urging the prompt completion of the Panathur S-Cross road-widening project and the construction of a railway underpass.

The S-Cross Road in Panathur plays a crucial role in connecting the residential zones in Balagere to Kadubeesanahalli along the Outer Ring Road, home to numerous IT companies.

During the demonstration, law enforcement was observed confiscating placards, homemade charts, and printouts that residents had brought to highlight the deteriorating infrastructure in their locality. Despite having obtained permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) and the Whitefield traffic police for the human chain, organizers reported receiving notices from the Varthur police.

Prior to the physical protest, residents initiated an online campaign with the hashtag #BalagereDemandsRoads.

The residents presented a set of demands, including the widening of the Panathur railway underpass on S-Cross Road, the completion of the partially constructed 150-ft CDP Road from Gunjur to ORR, the expansion of Balagere Road at the Varthur police station junction, and the opening of access to the railway vent leading to Croma Road on ORR until the S-Cross widening is finished by asphalting the stretch.
