In a concerted effort to conserve water, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has undertaken the installation of aerators in approximately five lakh public taps throughout the city. This initiative encompasses government offices and various other public spaces as well. The mandate, set by the BWSSB, necessitates the completion of this installation process by April 30.
Reportedly, according to Ram Prasath Manohar, the chairman of BWSSB, the incorporation of aerators holds the potential to save up to 30% of water on a daily basis. In a bid to enforce responsible water usage, the BWSSB has imposed fines totaling ₹5,000 on 450 individuals found utilizing potable water for non-essential purposes within the city limits.

Moreover, Mr. Manohar disclosed that over the past 15 days, the BWSSB has successfully replenished 15 lakes with treated water. Looking ahead, the board aims to extend this endeavour to 200 lakes within the span of a year, thereby bolstering groundwater levels in the surrounding areas.
In tandem with these efforts, the BWSSB has initiated the “Jalamitras” program, inviting citizens to volunteer alongside the board in water conservation endeavours.
In the last month alone, a staggering 9,000 individuals have enlisted as Jalamitras. These proactive measures underscore the collective commitment towards safeguarding Bengaluru’s precious water resources.
