Karnataka: Police caution android users against using ‘Pink WhatsApp’

Beware of using Whatsapp with a pink icon. Hackers are using this platform for committing fraud. The Bengaluru police are on alert mode in light of this development. 

The Karnataka Police have requested citizens to not install the Pink Whatsapp under any circumstance. A post was circulated on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter) by the Karnataka Police in relation to this. 


The Karnataka police highlighted that severe risks of data theft are compounded by the usage of this feature. “Beware! The Pink Whatsapp is dangerous. The users of the enticing Pink Whatsapp Android Package (APK) are being targeted by fraudsters for stealing data and hacking Android phones. Exercise precaution,” the Karnataka Police stated. They added that crucial data such as photos, contacts, netbanking passwords and  Short Message Services (SMSes) can be retrieved by the hackers.  Citizens can contact 1930 in order to file complaints in the domain of cyber crime. 

The post also highlighted that the Karnataka State Police (KSP) would be celebrating their Golden Jubilee this year.
