B Dayananda issued a directive to the police

200 applications are pending for processions in the city

Arguments during a procession led to a youth's death

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda on October 10th issued a directive to the police to not grant permissions for any Ganesha procession until December 2023. Presently 200 applications are pending with the police for the same. This however does not mean that there is any restriction on idol immersion. The police have been warned that they too would be taken to task if processions continue to take place. “The procession, D.J. music system, and crackers not only inconvenience the public but also cause pollution,” Mr. Dayananda said.

This is light of a youth who was stabbed to death over arguments that had broken during a Ganesha procession in AK Colony in Adugodi. 25-year-old Srinivas was stabbed by Vinay and his gang when Srinivas objected to the music that was being played. “Vinay, and his friend had an argument with Srinivas and the neighbours and local residents intervened and defused the situation. A few minutes later, Vinay returned with his friends to question Srinivas for not allowing them to play the music and stabbed him with a dagger, despite Srinivas’ mother Indira trying to dissuade them,” said an officer. 8 people have been arrested in connection to this incident.
