The UPS numbers will be provided to auto drivers in the Majestic region

Details of the driver are registered in the nearby police station

The UPS number would be 2-3 digits and hence easy to remember

In a move that would prove to be beneficiary to women wanting to venture out in the night, the Bengaluru Police have designated UPS (Upparpet Police Station) numbers to autos in and around the Majestic area in Bengaluru.

Women have been facing problems with regard to a potential threat of sexual harassment and theft of jewellery while boarding onto an auto at night. Due to a lapse among passengers in noting the details of the number plate of the auto, it was a challenge for the police officials to track down the perpetrators of the crime. The police have come up with the strategy to employ UPS numbers to deal with this challenge. This would be applicable for regions in and around the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stop, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus stand, metro station, railway station and the auto stand in the Majestic region.

The UPS numbers will be provided to auto drivers in the Majestic region. This would be provided after the complete details of the driver are registered in the nearby police station. The drivers are mandated to display the UPS numbers to the passengers. The UPS number would be 2-3 digits and hence easy to remember. Passengers are advised to only board onto autos that have an UPS number.
