On February 5th, the body of 35-year-old Premalatha was found hanging by a fan in a bedroom in the Srikanteshwara region of the Mahalakshmi Layout in Bengaluru. Although it was initially assumed to be a suicide, during investigations, the police uncovered another murder having taken place. 

The husband had stated that his wife committed suicide. The police were however not convinced and had Shivashankar arrested. During investigations, it was revealed that he had hired a contract killer to kill his wife. 

During the first two days, Shivashankar did not admit to his involvement. The police procured CCTV visuals from his bedroom and other parts of his house. More than 200 CCTV cameras were available in the surrounding region. An individual named Vinay seemed suspicious while examining the footage. Shivashankar identified the person as Vinay. Vinay was brought into custody and another murder was discovered in this process. 

Shivashankar suspected Premalatha of infidelity and had installed the cameras. They fought over this quite often. Shivashankar first tried black magic to bring an end to Premalatha’s life. Subsequently, he added mercury to a sweet. When both these techniques failed, he sought Vonay’s help. Who suffocated her to death on February 5th and hung her body from a fan. He confessed to the crime. 

During investigations, it was revealed that Vinay had also killed his own wife by pushing her into a lake. What was recorded as an accidental death in 2023 by the Hunasamaranahalli Police Station was revealed to be a pre planned murder by Vinay.
