Bengaluru police have reported that a tragic incident took place at approximately 11 am on November 2, involving a pregnant woman and her neighbour being struck by a speeding truck as they crossed the Hosur-Bengaluru highway.

The victims have been identified as a seven-month pregnant woman P. Rukaiya (28) and Lakshmamma (50), both hailing from Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh. Rukaiya had come to Bengaluru for a medical checkup on November 2 morning accompanied by her relative Rabiya, who fortunately sustained only minor injuries.

According to the police, the collision occurred after the trio had crossed the Hosur-Bengaluru highway, having passed through a gap in the barricade.

Lakshmamma, who had been living in Varthur, was known to Rukaiya as they were neighbours. Rukaiya and Rabiya were en route to a private hospital, with Lakshmamma familiar with the city and acting as their guide.

Tragically, an overspeeding truck struck them as they were crossing the road, resulting in the instant fatalities of Rukaiya and Lakshmamma. The Hebbagodi police have since apprehended the truck driver and impounded the vehicle.
