With summer approaching in close quarters, a crisis with respect to availability of drinking water has emerged in Bengaluru. Due to this crisis, dependency on tankers among people has increased. This has however resulted in an increase in the money people have had to dispense towards water.

In many areas, tankers which were available in the price range of Rs 500 to Rs 600 are now being sold in a price range of Rs 1000 to Rs 4000. To put an end to this unsubstantiated opportunism, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) have decided to introduce uniform rates for water tankers.

This issue of drinking water shortage was also raised in the Vidhana Sabha by the leader of the opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) R.Ashok. “People are being forced to leave regions because of this. The water in borewells has sunk to very low levels. New borewells have to be dug,” he said.
