A high court advisory has been issued for change in timings

Ease in traffic congestion is the rationale for the advisory

Meeting would be convened between government officials and representatives of private and government schools

A High Court advisory urged schools across the city to start half-an-hour earlier to the present timing in order to ease the traffic congestion that has plagued the city. A meeting would be convened between government officials and representatives from both private and government schools to mull over this proposition and ways to implement it.

“Since it was an advisory by the high court, we are waiting for the judgement copy. Once we receive the copy, we will verify in what context the court advised revisiting the timings and then call for a meeting with the stakeholders to discuss the issue,” an official from the Department of School Education and Literacy told Deccan Herald

There are reservations to enacting this that have emerged such as a disruption of the biological and sleep cycle of children. It has also been pointed out that this change of timings could be applicable for those schools that are placed in regions where the concentration of traffic is high rather than making it universally applicable across the city.

“Pushing the timings one hour earlier or later would cause inconvenience to parents and children. The existing timings are perfect, and everyone is accustomed to them,” said D Shashi Kumar, General Secretary of the Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka told Deccan Herald
