A complaint has been filed against Sandalwood actress Sonu Gowda regarding her adoption of a child in the Byadarahalli Police Station by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). An accusation of having broken laws pertaining to adoption of children has been made on Sonu Gowda. The complaint was filed on the night of 21st March. A notice was served to Sonu Gowda in this regard. 

Sonu adopted an 8-year-old girl from North Karnataka. She reportedly did not publicly disclose having done so. She supposedly released a video of the child. The parents of the child have also been served a notice. Suspicions of a transfer of money being involved in this case have arisen. 

The norms surrounding child adoption stipulate that the age gap between the children and the caregiver must be 25 years. Sonu Gowda is 23-years–old whereas the child is 8-years-old. This 15-year age difference indicates that the rules were broken. Sonu has been accused of adopting the child for making reels on social media platforms. 

Sonu Gowda was later arrested by the police. The child has received protection from the CWC.
