Social Media influencer Sonu Srinivas Gowda who was arrested over accusations of illegal adoption has secured release through a bail application. Sonu Gowda waved to the cameras outside the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru after her release. 

After the police had her arrested, she was produced in a court. The court granted the police a 14-day judicial custody of Sonu Gowda in order to conduct their enquiry. She was stationed in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

A complaint was filed by a person named Geetha who is an official working in the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). A First Information Report (FIR) was filed by the Byadarahalli Police on 22nd March.  

Sonu adopted an 8-year-old girl from North Karnataka. She reportedly did not publicly disclose having done so. She supposedly released a video of the child. The parents of the child were also served a notice. Suspicions of a transfer of money being involved in this case had arisen. The norms surrounding child adoption stipulate that the age gap between the children and the caregiver must be 25 years. Sonu Gowda is 23-years–old whereas the child is 8-years-old. This 15-year age difference indicates that the rules were broken. Sonu was accused of adopting the child for making reels on social media platforms.
