Yeshwantpur to Chikkabanavara BSRP may commence operations by Dec 2025
Yeshwantpur to Chikkabanavara stretch of the Mallige Line spans 7.4 kms
BSRP brings the city closer to a much-needed public transportation overhaul
After years of deliberation, the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) is finally making tangible progress, bringing the city closer to a much-needed public transportation overhaul. The inaugural segment, running from Yeshwantpur to Chikkabanavara and spanning 7.4 kilometers, is on track to commence operations by December 2025.
With private vehicle ownership on the rise in Bengaluru, the introduction of this new public transit option is being met with enthusiasm by residents, despite concerns about the project’s slow execution.
Infrastructure Development Minister MB Patil announced the projected operational timeline during an inspection of the casting of a 100-ft U-girder at Gollahalli over the weekend. He highlighted KRIDE’s progress, noting a 20% completion rate for the first corridor, commonly referred to as the Mallige Line, which spans from Byappanahalli to Chikkabanavara.
Mallige Line spans a total length of 25 km, with the initial phase opening up 7 km stretch from Yeshwantpur to Chikkabanwara.
Of the 120.4 acres of land required for the corridor, 119.1 acres have already been acquired, signaling significant progress in project preparations. KRIDE aims to kick off operations for corridor-2 by June 2026.
A notable feature of the BSRP is the pioneering use of a 100-ft U-girder, showcasing innovative engineering techniques in railway infrastructure development.
