Their achievement follows outstanding performance at IRIS science fair

Dhruv and Akhilesh spearheaded a project in real-time vision correction

They will represent India at International Science and Engineering Fair in US

Two students in the 11th grade from Neev Academy have earned the opportunity to represent India at the upcoming International Science and Engineering Fair in the United States this May.

Their achievement follows their outstanding performance at the national-level Innovation for Research and Innovation in STEM (IRIS) science fair.

Dhruv Ramu and Akhilesh Balaji spearheaded a groundbreaking project in real-time vision correction, concentrating on correcting spherical myopia and hyperopia. Under the mentorship of Alankar, their teacher, and Partha Pratim Das, a professor at Ashoka University, Dhruv and Akhilesh conducted their research at the Mphasis Laboratory at Ashoka. Their dedication led them to clinch the grand prize at the IRIS showcase held on January 29 and 30, 2024.

Their innovative approach involved implementing real-time correction as the figure moves across the screen, effectively eliminating colour distortions. Through continuous refinement, integration of novel concepts, and enhancements in accuracy, they secured the highest honours at the fair.

Looking ahead, Akhilesh intends to delve into the fields of physics and computer science or mathematics and computer science, fueling his passion for further research. On the other hand, Dhruv’s academic focus lies in biology, complementing Akhilesh’s proficiency in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Their diverse skill sets synergized seamlessly in their research endeavours.

In addition to their scientific pursuits, both students actively contribute to a science magazine within their school community. Furthermore, Dhruv is engaged in research activities in computational biology at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
