As per Sections 33 and 34 of the Bengaluru Water Supply & Sewerage Act, 1964, the use of potable water for anything other than drinking is strictly forbidden in Bengaluru. Violators will face an initial fine of ₹ 5000, with subsequent violations incurring an additional daily fine of ₹ 500.

Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has issued a notice prohibiting the use of drinking water for vehicle and hand washing, construction activities, decorative features such as fountains, as well as road construction and cleaning).

With water scarcity becoming a pressing issue in the city, it is imperative for everyone to use drinking water sparingly.
