Wistron to establish laptop manufacturing facility in Bengaluru
Wistron plans to invest Rs 1,500 crore and create 3,000 jobs
Laptop manufacturing set to commence by January 2026
The Karnataka government and Wistron, a Taiwan-based ICT Service Management Solutions company, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 31 to establish a laptop manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. Wistron plans to invest Rs 1,500 crore in this venture, anticipating the creation of approximately 3,000 job opportunities.
M B Patil, the Minister for Large and Medium Industries, revealed that the company has expressed the need for 32 acres of land for the proposed project. The government is currently considering providing the necessary land in the Bengaluru region. Wistron aims to initiate the construction of the plant in July, with laptop manufacturing set to commence by January 2026.
Minister Patil emphasized that this manufacturing unit, aligned with Industry 4.0 standards and featuring a fully automated facility, will be the first of its kind in Karnataka. The plant is slated to produce laptops for various brands, with over 50 percent of the laptops manufactured being earmarked for export. Additionally, the facility will manufacture Internet of Things (IoT) components and parts related to electric vehicles.
Patil underscored that beyond electronics production, this initiative is about promoting innovation, generating employment opportunities, and positioning Karnataka as a frontrunner in the electronics manufacturing sector. The signing of the MoU was attended by senior officials from Wistron and the state government.
