Complaints have emerged against the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) unit in Yelahanka. Residents of the Heritage Estate in the Ananthapura Gate in Puttenahalli will stage a protest on the evening of 8th March. Complaints of sound pollution are being made. Health problems are also being reported due to the gaseous emissions from the unit. The protestors have alleged that the education of children is being affected by these problems. More than 100 people are expected to participate in a protest on 8th March.

The protesters will reportedly request the unit to stop the production of electricity. Earlier, the residents had approached the court with their complaints. The unit had stalled operations for a while. Currently, it is being run on a trial basis. The protests are expected to continue on Saturday and Sunday as well.  “In 2011, a diesel base power plant was functional. We stopped it. We approached the National Green Tribunal (NGT). This unit was inaugurated in 2016. As per the guidelines, Public Consultative Forums were not approached. How did the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board grant permission for this? They should have informed people about the trail run,” one of the residents Nagaraj Krishnamurthy said.
