A carefully planned daytime theft at a former city corporator’s real estate office in Yelahanka has been solved, with police arresting the accused and recovering details of how the crime was executed.

A daytime theft of ₹10 lakh at the office of a former city corporator has been cracked by the Yelahanka New Town police, leading to the arrest of the accused. The incident took place on the 3rd of this month, when the money was stolen from the office of Ramachandra Chari, located in Muneshwara Layout of Yelahanka suburb.

Ramachandra Chari runs a real estate office next to his house. On the afternoon of the incident, he had closed the office by pulling down the shutter and, as usual, kept the office key on top of the shutter before leaving. When he returned around 4 pm, he found that the ₹10 lakh kept inside the office had been stolen.

He immediately lodged a complaint at the Yelahanka New Town police station, following which a case was registered and an investigation was launched. Police later arrested Ashok, who has been identified as the theft accused.

Investigations revealed that Ashok was a regular visitor to a nearby gobi Manchurian stall close to Ramachandra Chari’s office. During these frequent visits, he closely observed the daily routine, including where the office key was kept. Using this knowledge, the accused took the key without raising suspicion, entered the office, stole the cash, and placed the key back in the same spot before escaping.

Police said the accused used the stolen money to cover hospital expenses of his elder brother. Further checks revealed that Ashok has been involved in several theft cases in the past.

The accused is currently in police custody, and further interrogation is underway to verify his involvement in other similar crimes.
