With CCTV surveillance and daily enforcement, GBA marshals intensify action against illegal garbage dumping, issuing warnings and collecting record fines in just six months.
Bengaluru residents have been warned to think twice before dumping waste in public spaces, as the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal garbage disposal across the city. Over the past six months, enforcement teams have booked 82,493 cases and collected a massive ₹3.6 crore in fines, marking one of the strictest cleanliness drives in recent times.
GBA marshals have been deployed across key zones to monitor littering and unauthorized dumping. Officials said that continuous complaints about roadside garbage heaps, open dumping, and sanitation hazards prompted them to launch this aggressive campaign. With CCTV surveillance now covering multiple locations, violators are being tracked and penalised without exception.
Between August 2025 and January 2026, marshals recorded a sharp rise in cases. In August alone, 6,168 violations resulted in fines of ₹25.1 lakh. The numbers surged dramatically in September, when 21,257 cases led to a collection of ₹98 lakh. October followed with 12,625 cases and ₹56 lakh, while November saw 14,337 cases with ₹61.8 lakh in penalties. In December, 13,095 offenders were fined ₹56.5 lakh, and January 2026 recorded 15,011 cases, bringing in ₹66 lakh. Together, these figures total 82,493 cases and ₹3.6 crore in penalties.
Officials said the consistent dumping of garbage in unauthorized locations remains a major challenge. Despite regular cleaning drives, offenders continue to dispose of waste illegally, forcing authorities to intensify enforcement. GBA marshals have now been instructed to carry out daily inspections, surprise checks, and CCTV-based monitoring to ensure strict compliance.
Warning residents, officials stated that anyone caught dumping waste in public spaces will face immediate penalties, and further action may follow for repeat offenders. The authority has also urged citizens to use designated waste collection points and cooperate with sanitation workers.
