Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, nine key stations in Bengaluru are being redeveloped in phases to improve passenger comfort, connectivity, accessibility, and infrastructure.
Nine important railway stations across Bengaluru are undergoing phased redevelopment under the Central government’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at turning them into modern, passenger-friendly transit hubs with better connectivity and comfort.
For the financial year 2025-26, the South Western Railway (SWR) has received an allocation of ₹572 crore, out of which ₹468 crore has already been spent till December 2025, as informed by the Ministry of Railways in the Lok Sabha.
The redevelopment details were shared in response to an unstarred question raised by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirming that nine stations in the city have been selected. These include Bangalore Cantonment, Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (KSR Bengaluru), Yesvantpur, Malleswaram, Whitefield, Krishnarajapuram, Kengeri, Channasandra, and Dodballapur.

The project focuses on comprehensive upgrades such as better station access, improved waiting halls, modern toilets, wider foot overbridges, air concourses, lifts, escalators, and facilities for Divyangjan passengers. Additional improvements include upgraded parking, multimodal transport integration, executive lounges, kiosks under the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme, food plazas, landscaping, and enhanced passenger amenities.
At Yesvantpur, civil works including the east-side arrival plaza, elevated road, and multi-level parking have been completed, while finishing works and west-side station building construction are underway. Bangalore Cantonment has completed a diversion road, training centre, and major structural work, with finishing and foot overbridge construction in progress.
Whitefield station has already seen improvements in parking, boundary walls, platform shelters, and a ladies waiting hall, while work continues on a new canopy, food plaza, and a 12-metre-wide foot overbridge. Meanwhile, Krishnarajapuram, Kengeri, and Dodballapur are witnessing upgrades such as new entry points, better parking, platform shelters, and improved waiting halls.

The Ministry stated that redevelopment is being carried out in carefully planned phases, based on station-specific master plans. However, no fixed deadlines have been announced due to challenges related to statutory approvals, utility shifting, and maintaining uninterrupted train services. All projects are being monitored through a dedicated railway portal to avoid delays and cost overruns.
