  • Rose demand spikes ahead of Valentine’s Day
  • Prices double and triple in markets
  • Growers benefit from festive surge

Heavy demand, wedding season, limited supply, and online orders drive sharp rise in rose prices, bringing cheer to growers and boosting business for traders.

With Valentine’s Day just a day away, markets are witnessing a massive surge in demand for red roses, leading to a sharp spike in prices across wholesale and retail segments. The festive mood, combined with wedding season requirements, has created heavy buying pressure, pushing rates to double and even triple the usual levels.

In wholesale markets, the price of a single rose, which normally ranges between ₹16 and ₹20, has climbed to ₹20-₹30 during Valentine’s week. Retail prices have jumped even more sharply, rising from the usual ₹20-₹30 to ₹50-₹80 per flower. In high-demand areas, a single rose is now being sold for as much as ₹80-₹120, reflecting the intense rush among buyers.

Bouquet prices have also recorded a steep rise. A bouquet of 10 roses, which earlier cost between ₹200 and ₹350, is now priced at ₹500-₹800. Similarly, a 20-rose bouquet, earlier available at ₹350-₹500, is currently selling for ₹800-₹1,100, depending on location and quality.

Several factors have contributed to the price hike. The primary reason is the significant increase in demand ahead of Valentine’s Day. The ongoing wedding season has further added to bulk purchases. Reduced flower supply from neighbouring states has tightened market availability, while higher online bookings have increased pressure on retail stocks.

Traders confirm that customers are willingly paying higher prices to meet Valentine’s Day gifting needs. Despite the steep rates, sales volumes remain strong. Flower growers, meanwhile, are enjoying a profitable period, as the festive rush has resulted in better returns for their produce.
