GBA, Forest Department begin preventive action to avoid summer wind-related mishaps across the city

Following a series of safety concerns linked to dry tree branches and fallen limbs, the Bengaluru City Central Civic Body (GBA) has issued an alert and initiated preventive measures to avoid accidents during the summer season.

With strong winds and sudden storms common during summer, civic officials have decided to act in advance by identifying and removing dry, weak and hazardous branches across the city. The focus will be on roadside trees, government properties and locations marked as high-risk.

As part of this effort, tree branches posing a danger will be trimmed or removed. The operation is being carried out with the support of the Forest Department, which has begun clearing unsafe trees and branches from vulnerable areas.

Officials said the move comes in the backdrop of a fire incident reported on Railway Road in Malleswaram on Tuesday. According to authorities, dry tree branches that had been cut and left along the roadside caught fire, creating panic among residents and commuters in the area.

Taking note of the incident, the civic body has stepped up monitoring and instructed officials to prevent a repeat of such mishaps.

The GBA has appealed to the public to report dangerous trees or hanging branches. Citizens have been asked to call the GBA helpline and share details of locations where dry branches or trees pose a threat.

The Commissioner has directed civic teams to act immediately on public complaints. Officials have been instructed to ensure that removal of risky branches is carried out without delay once a complaint is received.

Authorities said this proactive approach aims to reduce fire hazards, road accidents and injuries caused by falling branches during high winds in the coming weeks.
