Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to strictly follow transparent and regular voter list revision procedures as preparations intensify for the upcoming GBA elections.

In preparation for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) elections, Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao on Saturday issued clear instructions to officials to ensure that voter list-related processes are carried out in a regular, transparent and accountable manner.

Rao said that the State Election Commission had issued a revised circular on January 22 specifically for the conduct of GBA elections. He stated that all officials must strictly adhere to these updated guidelines while carrying out election-related responsibilities.

Rao informed the gathering that officials from all five urban corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority have been directed to take appropriate steps and act responsibly during the voter list revision process. He stressed that officers must avoid any confusion related to ward demarcation and should personally inspect ward boundaries to ensure accuracy on the ground.

Emphasising the importance of clean electoral rolls, the Chief Commissioner instructed voter registration officers, who are revenue officers, to dedicate at least two to three hours every day exclusively to election-related work. He clarified that this responsibility should be given priority along with their regular duties such as property tax collection. Rao said the voter list must be prepared carefully and without any loopholes.

He also issued specific directions regarding booth-level officers (BLOs). Rao instructed that BLOs must conduct house-to-house visits during the voter list revision process. He underlined that every household must be covered and that relevant documents should be properly verified and maintained during the process of addition, correction and deletion of voter details.

The Chief Commissioner made it clear that transparency and accuracy in voter list preparation are crucial to ensure free and fair elections. He urged officials at all levels to carry out their duties diligently and responsibly in the run-up to the GBA elections.
