European aerospace leader Airbus has officially launched a massive new technology center in Bengaluru, significantly expanding its strategic footprint in India. The state-of-the-art facility will function as the company's central hub for digital transformation, advanced engineering, procurement, and global customer service.

Expanding the 'Make in India' Footprint

Spanning an impressive 880,000 square feet, the newly inaugurated center is explicitly designed to accommodate approximately 5,000 employees. This establishes the Bengaluru site as one of the company's largest digital and engineering facilities located outside of Europe. Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus in India and South Asia, emphasized that the complex provides the crucial scale needed to accelerate the company’s "Make in India" ambitions. By comprehensively upgrading a specialized engineering unit that has operated in Bengaluru for two decades, Airbus has cemented a multi-dimensional powerhouse capable of supporting rapid regional business growth.

Driving Next-Generation Aviation Tech

The Bengaluru center will deeply integrate local tech talent into the complete lifecycle of Airbus aircraft. Indian digital specialists and engineers will focus heavily on maintaining and optimizing existing commercial plane and helicopter programs, while spearheading research into futuristic aviation technologies. The facility's high-tech mandate includes pioneering advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and next-generation aircraft design. The inauguration event was physically attended by Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Industries Minister M.B. Patil, with Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu joining the ceremony virtually.

Boosting Local Sourcing and Manufacturing

Beyond advanced software and engineering frameworks, Airbus is aggressively scaling up its direct financial commitment to the Indian supply market. The aerospace giant has successfully tripled its annual local sourcing, jumping dramatically from $500 million in 2019 to more than $1.5 billion today. The company remains firmly on track to surpass the $2 billion annual sourcing mark before the end of the decade. This expansion perfectly aligns with broader industry milestones, including Airbus's projection that India's commercial aviation fleet will triple to 2,250 aircraft by 2035, and manufacturing partnerships like Tata Advanced Systems assembling H125 helicopters in nearby Kolar.
