Proposal to convert KC General Hospital into a medical college gains momentum as the government prepares to launch a trauma care centre and mother-and-child hospital to serve north Bengaluru.
Bengaluru could soon get another medical college, with serious discussions under way to upgrade KC General Hospital into a full-fledged medical education and healthcare hub. The proposal has gained strong support, especially to cater to the growing healthcare needs of north Bengaluru and surrounding areas.
Authorities are exploring the feasibility of converting KC General Hospital into a medical college, responding to increasing public demand for better medical education facilities and improved patient care in the region. The move is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare infrastructure and provide relief to residents who currently depend on distant government hospitals.

As part of the larger expansion plan, a state-of-the-art trauma care centre is set to become operational by March. The new facility will be housed in a modern building and will have 50 beds, including 14 HDU beds, 15 ICU beds, and two fully-equipped operation theatres, ensuring advanced emergency treatment for accident and critical care patients.
In addition, a new blood bank and a dedicated building for DNB (Diplomate of National Board) academic programs are also nearing completion, aimed at enhancing both treatment services and medical training.
Further strengthening healthcare services, a modern mother-and-child hospital is being developed on the campus. This fully equipped facility is expected to be inaugurated by December this year, offering specialised care for women and children.
