The incidents began on September 12, when a private school bus got trapped in a drain. On September 19 at 8 AM, a school van from Christ Public School got stuck in an open slab, halting traffic in both directions during morning pickup. Later the same day, a New Horizon Gurukul School bus was trapped in a muddy, slushy road during afternoon drop-off, requiring a JCB to extract the vehicle.
Videos of these incidents went viral, sparking outrage among parents and residents. Many students and parents expressed fear for children’s safety on this stretch, which has become notorious for potholes, open drains, and muddy patches.
The repeated incidents prompted plans for protests along the Panathur–Gunjur road, although police instructed demonstrators to stay on footpaths to avoid traffic disruptions. Students participated in the protest, making the safety issue even more prominent.
With multiple mishaps in just seven days, residents are demanding immediate repair of the Balagere–Panathur stretch to prevent further accidents, especially involving school children.
