The State Election Commission has decided to conduct the Greater Bengaluru Authority elections using ballot papers, while also releasing the draft voter list and announcing key election-related timelines.

The State Election Commission has announced that the upcoming elections to the five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will be conducted through ballot papers, moving away from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the previous BBMP elections.

The decision was revealed during a press conference held in connection with the GBA elections and the release of the draft voter list. The briefing was attended by State Election Commissioner G.S. Sangreshi and commissioners of all five city corporations.

Clarifying the decision, the State Election Commission stated that it is an independent constitutional body and that the choice of using ballot papers is its own. The Commission noted that there are no flaws in either EVMs or ballot papers, and the Supreme Court has not issued any directive prohibiting the use of ballot papers. It was also pointed out that district panchayat and taluk panchayat elections are regularly conducted using ballot papers, making the method well established.

According to officials, the GBA elections are likely to be held after May 25.

Alongside this announcement, the draft voter list for the GBA area was officially published today. As per the draft data, Greater Bengaluru has a total of 88,91,411 voters, including 45,69,193 men, 43,20,583 women, and 1,635 voters in the ‘other’ category.

From tomorrow, voters can file objections or submit corrections related to the draft voter list. The objection period will remain open until February 3. During this time, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry out door-to-door verification to cross-check voter details.

Citizens can seek corrections if their names are missing, wrongly entered, or if there are errors in personal details. The final voter list is scheduled to be published on March 16, after all objections are examined.
