  • 10.7 km Major Arterial Road connects Mysuru and Magadi Roads
  • 90% of work complete; final land clearance underway
  • Project to ease congestion and boost connectivity in West Bengaluru

The long-delayed 10.7 km Mysuru Road–Magadi Road corridor is finally 90% complete, promising to ease congestion, boost real estate, and improve access across western Bengaluru.

The Bangalore Development Authority’s (BDA) long-awaited Major Arterial Road (MAR) project, connecting Mysuru Road and Magadi Road, is nearing completion after years of delay. Spanning 10.7 kilometres, this six-lane corridor is designed to ease traffic congestion and provide seamless connectivity across western Bengaluru.

Once operational, the MAR will serve as a crucial alternate route parallel to NICE Road, linking Mysuru Road with Magadi Road and connecting fast-growing localities such as Sulikere, Ramasandra, Kenchapura, and Kannahalli. It will also integrate 56 internal routes within Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout (NPKL), enhancing accessibility across all nine blocks of the township.

Launched in 2018 at a cost of ₹575 crore, the 330-foot-wide expressway includes service roads, 64 minor bridges, underpasses, retaining walls, and a 250-metre tunnel near Challaghatta. A key feature of the project is the rail underbridge between Kengeri and Hejjala stations, aimed at easing vehicle movement along the Mysuru corridor.

While the project is 90% complete, pending land acquisition in areas like Machohalli, Sulikere, Kannahalli, and Challaghatta has slightly delayed final touches. Forest clearance work for the remaining 180 metres near Sulikere is currently progressing. Once finished, the corridor will offer smoother traffic flow, reduce bottlenecks near Challaghatta and Kumbalgodu, and stimulate residential and commercial growth.

The BDA also plans to extend the Kempegowda Layout by acquiring 9,000 acres beyond the NICE corridor, further strengthening the region’s development. With the MAR nearing completion, West Bengaluru is on the verge of becoming a seamlessly connected urban hub—linking homes, jobs, and transit like never before.
