  • First Pink Line train prototype rolled out at BEML Bengaluru
  • Driverless-capable, fully CBTC-ready, with 2,008-passenger capacity
  • Operations expected in phases from June to December 2026

The six-coach prototype marks a major milestone for Namma Metro Phase 2, with advanced features, full CBTC readiness, and delivery timelines set through 2026.

Bengaluru moved a step closer to expanding its metro network as BEML Ltd on December 11 rolled out the first six-coach prototype train for the 21-km Pink Line, connecting Kalena Agrahara and Nagawara. The unveiling took place at the BEML rail complex, witnessed by BMRCL Managing Director Dr. J. Ravishankar, BEML CMD Shantanu Roy, and senior officials from both organisations.

The rollout marks the first major milestone under the ₹3,177-crore contract, under which BEML will supply 318 standard-gauge metro cars for the Pink Line and the Airport Line (Blue Line). All trainsets are being designed, engineered and manufactured at BEML’s Bengaluru facility.

The prototype will be transported to the Kothanur depot after December 15 and will undergo a rigorous, multi-stage testing and commissioning programme for at least five months, in line with BMRCL’s timelines. BEML will also provide 15 years of maintenance support.
