Kempegowda International Airport handled 60 million rose stems weighing over 2,700 metric tonnes, marking sharp growth in both international and domestic shipments, backed by advanced cold-chain infrastructure.
Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has achieved a major milestone this Valentine’s season by exporting around 60 million rose stems, weighing more than 2,700 metric tonnes, to 26 international and 47 domestic destinations, setting a new benchmark in floral cargo movement.
According to Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), this season witnessed a 38% year-on-year increase in stem volumes and a 64% rise in total tonnage, reaffirming KIA’s status as India’s leading gateway for perishable exports for the fifth consecutive year.
International rose shipments remained steady at 305 metric tonnes, with Singapore emerging as the largest overseas market. Other major international destinations included Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Abu Dhabi (UAE), New York (USA), and Kuwait.
In a significant expansion of global reach, new international destinations were added this year, including Los Angeles, Dallas Fort Worth, and Orlando in the United States, London Gatwick in the United Kingdom, and Toronto in Canada.
On the domestic front, rose transportation touched 2,402 metric tonnes, marking a 79% year-on-year growth in tonnage. Delhi and Kolkata continued to anchor demand, while Guwahati, Mumbai, and Jaipur recorded strong throughput.
Notably, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Lucknow registered over 150% growth compared to the previous Valentine’s season, highlighting a sharp rise in domestic floral demand.
BIAL credited the surge to expanded cargo handling capacity and advanced cold-chain infrastructure at KIA. The airport’s state-of-the-art cold storage facilities, equipped with real-time monitoring and advanced temperature-control technology, ensured freshness, quick handling, and safe transportation of flowers.
