Bengaluru Bloom, a viral app by Malavika, maps 27,000 pink Tabebuia trees across the city, blending tech and nature while inspiring community appreciation

A Bengaluru-based developer has launched an innovative application, Bengaluru Bloom, designed to chart the city’s iconic pink Tabebuia rosea trees. What began as a personal hobby of photographing seasonal blossoms has evolved into a digital mapping project that has quickly captured public imagination.

The creator, Malavika, introduced the app through a post on social media platform X, where her visual map of the blooms went viral. The map highlights approximately 27,000 Tabebuia rosea trees scattered across Bengaluru, marked with pink indicators that showcase their widespread presence. Her initiative has been praised for blending technology with nature, offering residents a new way to engage with the city’s seasonal beauty.

During the blooming season, the Tabebuia rosea transforms streets into vibrant pink corridors. The trees, with their trumpet-shaped flowers, frame avenues, tower over traffic signals, and create pastel carpets as petals fall. Malavika’s photographs accompanying the map illustrate these striking scenes, drawing admiration from locals and visitors alike.

Others shared their own images of the blossoms, turning the project into a community celebration of Bengaluru’s natural charm.

Beyond aesthetics, Bengaluru Bloom fosters environmental appreciation and urban exploration. By making the city’s floral heritage more accessible, the app encourages residents to connect with nature while navigating their neighbourhoods. Malavika’s project demonstrates how passion-driven innovation can inspire collective enjoyment, highlighting the role of technology in deepening awareness of the environment.
