A highly planned heist that shocked the country was solved in record time, with key arrests and major cash recovery across multiple states.
A major breakthrough has been achieved in the ₹7 crore ATM cash van robbery that shook Bengaluru and drew national attention. The crime, carried out on November 19, involved hijacking a vehicle transporting ₹7.11 crore. Bengaluru City Police, in a press conference, have now confirmed that the case has been cracked through intensive, coordinated work across multiple states.
Initial claims suggested that individuals posing as RBI officials intercepted the van near DJ Halli. However, investigation confirmed the robbery occurred earlier, around 12:48 pm, near Ashoka Pillar, Jayanagar, and Dairy Circle. The robbers stopped the van, displayed weapons to intimidate the staff, removed several cash boxes, and abandoned the vehicle by 1:16 pm before fleeing.

What were the challenges in the case?
The case presented several challenges. The planning was meticulous, with minimal initial leads. The gang deliberately avoided mobile phones, communicated in multiple languages, and moved through CCTV-blind zones. Their vehicles had frequently changed number plates, and the stolen currency lacked traceable serial records. Misleading reports in the early stages also complicated the inquiry.
Despite these obstacles, police teams, comprising 11 inspectors and 2 ACPs from the South Division, plus 6 inspectors from CCB, worked round the clock. The investigation spanned Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and even Goa. Over 30 people were questioned, and CCTV footage, vehicle movements, and local intelligence were examined continuously.
Within the first 24 hours, investigators identified crucial details about the vehicles used. By 54 hours, three primary suspects were arrested, and ₹5.76 crore was recovered.
One vehicle used for the crime has been seized. It is estimated that, 8 people were involved in the operation, and tracking of the remaining members is underway.
