A Bengaluru police constable’s unusual behaviour during routine checks led investigators to uncover his role in a major ₹7-crore robbery.
A major twist has emerged in the sensational ₹7-crore robbery reported in Bengaluru, after investigators uncovered that the mastermind behind the crime was none other than a serving constable from Govindapura station. The discovery has caused widespread shock across the police force, as the officer’s own missteps during routine checking helped unravel the case.
According to case details, multiple divisions across the city had imposed checkpoints on the day of the robbery, with every vehicle being inspected. During this operation, constable Annappa Naik arrived at one of the checkpoints despite having no duty assigned there. With experience from his earlier posting with the Banaswadi crime team, he attempted to gather updates about the robbery, asking officers whether the suspect vehicle had been traced and even showing them a viral photograph related to the case.

His unusual curiosity immediately drew attention. The head constable at the checkpoint questioned his presence, as he was not from the jurisdiction. Officers from Banaswadi, already aware of past doubts about Annappa’s conduct, shared their suspicion with the local station. Soon after, it was confirmed that Annappa was neither on beat duty nor assigned to any operation at the time.
This confirmation strengthened investigators’ doubts. Local officers quietly monitored his movements, observing behaviour that appeared inconsistent and unnatural. He was eventually detained for inquiry, during which sustained questioning led to a major breakthrough, the constable admitted to his role in planning the robbery.
With no clear leads previously available, this unexpected turn provided the decisive clue that investigators had been searching for. Police are continuing the interrogation process and expanding the investigation to uncover all individuals involved in the execution of the robbery.
Further developments in the case are expected as the probe progresses.
