The accused, who operated out of an office in HSR Layout, allegedly called Americans claiming that they were involved in certain criminal activities and that they faced digital arrest. Posing as officials from the Department of Investigation, the scammers demanded money to avoid supposed legal repercussions. Many of the suspects used fake ID cards to add credibility to their claims.

Of the 16 arrested, four hail from Gujarat, eight from Maharashtra, and the remaining are from Jharkhand and Rajasthan. During the raid, police seized 25 mobile phones and over 20 computer systems used to orchestrate the scam. Investigators are continuing to probe deeper to uncover the full extent of the operation and any additional accomplices.
