Bengaluru: Elderly woman killed, three critically injured in cylinder blast at KR Puram

A powerful cylinder explosion at a residence in Bengaluru’s KR Puram area left an 80-year-old woman dead and three others severely injured, destroying the entire house and damaging nearby properties.

A devastating cylinder explosion in Bengaluru’s KR Puram area claimed the life of an elderly woman and left three others critically injured early in the morning. The blast, which occurred around 7:15 AM, completely destroyed the house and caused significant damage to neighbouring buildings.

The victim, identified as 80-year-old Akkayyamma, was trapped under the debris following the explosion. Fire and emergency personnel managed to recover her body from the wreckage after several hours of rescue efforts. The impact of the blast was so severe that window panes of nearby houses shattered, and a woman living behind the affected house also sustained injuries.

Three other residents of the same household, Chandana (22), Shekhar (52), and Kiran Kumar (25), were rushed to the hospital with serious burn injuries and are reported to be in critical condition. The explosion left the structure in ruins, with debris scattered across the locality.

Preliminary observations indicate a possible LPG cylinder blast, though officials have stated that the exact cause will be determined after a detailed forensic and technical inspection. The intensity of the explosion also raised concerns over safety compliance and gas leak detection mechanisms in residential areas.

Police from the KR Puram jurisdiction and fire brigade teams conducted on-site assessments to evaluate the damage. The area was cordoned off to ensure public safety as rescue and inspection work continued.
