Strong demand for hybrid cars and higher purchasing power have made Bengaluru the single largest contributor to Toyota’s South India sales this year.
Bengaluru has emerged as Toyota’s most important market in South India, recording the highest sales for the Japanese carmaker this year. A significant share of Toyota vehicles sold across southern states has come from the Karnataka capital alone, highlighting the city’s growing preference for premium and hybrid mobility solutions.
Toyota cars have seen strong demand across South India in 2024, with total regional sales touching 1,06,000 units. Of this, nearly one-third of the vehicles were sold in Bengaluru. The city alone accounted for 31 per cent of Toyota’s South India sales, making it the largest single market for the company in the region.

One of the key drivers behind this trend is Bengaluru’s growing interest in hybrid vehicles. Customers in the city are increasingly choosing Toyota’s hybrid models, citing better fuel efficiency, suitability for urban traffic, and long-term cost benefits. Rising income levels and improved purchasing capacity among city residents have also contributed to higher vehicle sales.
Toyota officials say hybrid cars are becoming the preferred choice for daily city travel, especially in congested urban conditions like Bengaluru. This shift has further strengthened Toyota’s position in the city’s automobile market.
Adding to this significance is Toyota’s manufacturing presence near Bengaluru. The company’s production facility is located at Bidadi, on the outskirts of the city. Cars manufactured locally at the Bidadi plant are seeing the highest demand within Bengaluru itself, reflecting a strong preference for locally produced vehicles.

Speaking on the sales performance, Toyota South India Vice President Visiline Sigamani said that Bengaluru has become a crucial growth driver for the company. He confirmed that 31 per cent of the 1,06,000 cars sold in South India this year were purchased in Bengaluru alone.
With strong hybrid adoption, local manufacturing support, and steady consumer demand, Bengaluru has firmly established itself as Toyota’s most important market in South India.
