  • More CCTV cameras planned across critical public spaces
  • Streetlight maintenance and new installations to be prioritised
  • Action to follow police request for enhanced surveillance

Following the recent Rs 7 crore robbery near Dairy Circle, the GBA moves to strengthen surveillance and improve streetlighting across critical locations in the city.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has initiated a fresh safety review across the city after the recent robbery incident near Dairy Circle raised concerns about surveillance gaps. The discussions have centred around reinforcing CCTV coverage and fixing streetlighting issues in vulnerable areas.

According to GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao, the police have urged the authority to increase the number of CCTV cameras in several locations, particularly where incidents like attacks and robberies are more likely to occur. He stated that many crimes have become harder to crack due to insufficient CCTV presence, making expanded surveillance a priority.

The review highlighted that several parts of the city either lack proper streetlights or have non-functional lights, making some stretches unsafe after dark. The GBA is now working on addressing these gaps by ensuring proper maintenance of existing streetlights and exploring installation in areas that currently do not have them.

The authority has begun engaging with the police to finalise locations needing immediate attention. Flyovers, underpasses, skywalks and other critical junctions are among the areas identified for increased CCTV installation. The Commissioner confirmed that cameras installed under the Nirbhaya scheme have already strengthened monitoring, but more coverage is still required.

Maheshwar Rao noted that the GBA has already installed CCTV cameras in many parts of the city, and the next phase will focus on additional spots highlighted by the police. He emphasised that the authority is committed to responding to every location flagged by law enforcement to ensure improved safety for the public.
