Bengaluru gears up for Independence Day at Manekshaw Ground with e-Pass entry, tight security

From online e-passes to a 2,000-strong police presence and 100 CCTV cameras, Bengaluru’s Manekshaw Ground is fully prepared to host 9,000 attendees for the Independence Day celebrations.

Bengaluru is set to celebrate Independence Day in grand style at Manekshaw Ground, with the BBMP and city police announcing full-scale preparations to ensure a safe and seamless event. BBMP Commissioner Maheshwar Rao confirmed that arrangements have been made to handle both large crowds and potential rain without disruption.

This year, 3,000 members of the public will be allowed entry alongside dignitaries, bringing total attendance to around 9,000. For the first time, e-passes are being issued online through the Seva Sindhu portal, requiring Aadhaar verification. As of now, only 100 e-passes have been claimed, with a limit of 3,000.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will hoist the national flag at 9 AM. The parade will feature 35 contingents, including KSRP, CRPF, BSF, CAR, Goa Police, traffic police, wardens, dog squads, and fire services, totalling 1,150 personnel. Notably, the parade will not be led by soldiers this year.

Security will be tight, with 100 CCTV cameras, two luggage scanners, and 2,000 police officers deployed. No parking will be allowed from Anil Kumble Circle to Shivajinagar and on Queens Road; public transport use is encouraged. Attendees are urged to arrive early, carry their passes, and avoid bringing unnecessary luggage.

Special programs include “Economic Independence through Five Guarantees” and “Kannada Veera Vanitheyaru” to honour Karnataka’s women freedom fighters.
